Happy Monday! Today I am here with something special. I was making a card for this weeks Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge when my oldest daughter, who is 7 years old, came over and asked if she could make one, too. She did a great job, so let me get a move on this post so you can see her card. :)
Here is the sketch:
And here is the card I made:
It's been a while since I made a card using patterned paper, so I felt a bit out of my element. I think it turned out pretty, though.
Here is my daughter's card:
Aside from the busy patterns of the paper, I think she did a fabulous job! All I did is cut the papers for her. She did everything else. If you look closely, she heat embossed the sentiment in the bottom right corner. Looks like I have a little card maker in the family. :)
That's all for today! It's another good week for card challenges, so I'll be back with more soon!
Until next time...

Fusion Card Challenge
Hello! My girls have been at a day camp all week, so I am getting some serious card making done! Today I am back with a card that I created for this week's Fusion Card Challenge.
Here is the GORGEOUS picture and the sketch for the week:
Isn't that a beautiful picture? I tried to do it some kind of justice with the card I made:
I wanted this card to be pretty, so I added the white sequins and the dyed seam binding to finish it off. I love how it turned out! Doesn't seam binding just make everything pretty? :)
While I am here, I wanted to share another card I made for some friends of ours who just bought a new house.
I used my Silhouette to cut out the stamp-edged background, house and heart. The stamps are all from Avery Elle. It's a simple card, but sometimes those are the best kind. I hope our friends like it.
That's all for today! Until next time...

Mama Elephant and Me Challenge
Happy half-way point! Today I am back with a card that I created for the Mama Elephant and Me Challenge blog. This is a new one for me, so I'm excited to be playing along!
Here is the inspiration photo:
And here is my card:
This card was a challenge for me, but I am happy with the way it turned out. I am kind of loving the sequins here. I didn't have any fun, orange sequins, so I took a small flower stamp, stamped it with orange ink, then covered it with a clear sequin. That works just as well, if you ask me!
Here is a close up of the sequins:
That is all for today! I'll be back tomorrow to share more. Thanks for stopping by!

CAS(E) this Sketch #85
Hello! Today I am back with a card I created for this week's CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge. Here is the sketch:
And here is the card I made:
For this card, I used my Simon Says Stamp Favorite Flowers stamp set. First, I stamped the base of the flower and leaves. Then I took the coordinated scribble pieces and stamped them with Versamark. I heat embossed them with white embossing powder. I love how this look turned out. The sentiment is from Avery Elle's Oh Happy Day set. I added a bunch of pretty sequins to complement the flower. I love how this card turned out!
I am also submitting this card for this week's Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, where the theme is spots and dots.
That is all for today! Thanks for stopping by!

Some sparkly fun!
Well, folks, it's a new week. And it's July 21st. I'm not quite sure how that happened so quickly, but it did. Anyway, I decided to play last night and wanted to share what I made. Here is the sketch I used:
And here is the card I made:
I used my new Neat and Tangled Photo Booth stamp set for this card. (I won it from their Little Tangles challenge blog.) First I stamped the photo strip in black ink, then I went over it with Versamark and covered it with some yummy clear embossing powder that has glitter in it. Oh, I also used the glasses and mustache from Sweet Stamp Shop's Too Hip set. Then I stamped the images and sentiments and added enamel dots. I think it turned out really fun!
Here is a close up of the sparkle:
I am also submitting this card to this week's Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge, where the theme is Spots and Dots.
That is all for today! I hope you all have a great week and thanks for stopping by!

Card Concept Challenge #14
Hello again! Today I am playing along with a challenge that I just recently stumbled upon. It's called The Card Concept challenge. Here is the color swatch:
And here is the card I made:
And here is the card I made:
This card was so quick and easy to make. I used my Avery Elle Aim High stamp set, plus a few arrows from other random sets. I stamped the sentiment and various arrows, then threw on some enamel dots and twine. See? Easy! I love how it turned out!
That is all I have for today! Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Retro Sketch #123
Happy Friday, All! Today I am playing along with this week's Retro Sketch challenge. Here is the sketch:
And here is the card I made:
I'll be honest...I made the top part of this card to be a shaker card weeks ago, but I just couldn't get my brain to connect with my fingers when I was trying to make a card with it. I ended up shelving it altogether. So when I saw this sketch, I decided to pull it out and turn it into a non-shaker card. I stamped the lightening bugs on vellum and then glued sequins on them. Super cute! I added all of the banners and some seam binding. After the initial brain fog part of this card lifted, I was happy that the rest of it came together so seamlessly. It turned out pretty cute!
Here is a close up of the window:
That is all for tonight! Until next time...

A Big Change!
Guys, I decided to make a big change to my blog today. You probably haven't noticed it and probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't pointed it out, but it's huge to me. I have decided to rename my blog. One Scrappy Novice no more...now it's all about putting the spotlight on the things I've created. I feel like I have started to prove myself as a card maker and feel it's time to show the confidence I have and feel when I make cards that I love. I wish I could say the same about my scrapbooking skills. =/ I will still show layouts and other crafty things as I make them, but now I want my cards to shine. That's alright with you all, right? :)
I thought I'd celebrate this huge (to me) moment by sharing a card I made last night. I am just LOVING the Avery Elle Storybook stamp set. Plus they work so well with Distress Ink-ed backgrounds. I am in love!

I am loving sharing my creations with you and I can't wait to share more in the future! Thanks for coming along on this ride with me. :)

Happy Half-way Point!
I've never been a fan of the term "hump day," so let's just call it the half-way point, shall we? :) Today I am playing along with a color and a sketch challenge. This is what I was working with:
And here is the card I made:
I have never made a split card like this, so this is something "novice-y" for me. I stamped cardstock with the floral pattern I wanted, then cut it so it would create an empty space in the middle. I would normally use masking to get this effect, but this is another fun way to get the same idea. I added the sentiment and some enamel dots and this card was finished. I think it turned out pretty nice, if I do say so myself. :)
Thanks for stopping by today! Until next time...

AEIHeartU Challenge #11: One Word
Hello, All! I am back after an eventful family trip at the lake and am getting back into the challenge game! I feel like I am missing out if I am not playing along. Am I the only one who feels that way?
Tonight I am playing along with this week's Avery Elle AEIHeartU Challenge:
Here is the card I made:
Guys, I am IN LOVE with this card! It's not often that I finish a card and fall in love with it, but this one definitely did that for me. I've been anxiously waiting for this Avery Elle Storybook stamp set to make it's way to me. It's been sold out basically since it debuted. But man was it worth the wait!
I started by masking off the edge of the white cardstock. Then I stamped the images where I wanted them. Before I moved on, I stamped the sentiment with Versamark and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I wanted the sentiment to pop out from the background. Then here's the secret next step: I covered the stamped images with rubber cement! I knew I didn't want to die cut the images, so covering them with the rubber cement was my next choice. Once the rubber cement was dry, I created the background with Distress Inks. Seriously, why did I wait so long to jump on the Distress Ink bandwagon?? I rubbed off the rubber cement, colored the images with colored pencils, added some glitter glue to the shooting star, then adhered the whole thing to my card base.
Here is a close up of what the masking did while I was applying the Distress Inks:
If you look closely, you can see where the rubber cement was applied outside of the stamped image line. I just love it!
That is all for today! Hope this card makes you as happy as it makes me. :)
Until next time...

A Card For All Challenges
Good Evening! I am not usually one of those people who can find a million challenges to squeeze one card into, but I am going to have to make an exception for this card. First, let me show you the card I made:
I made the mask/stencil using my Silhouette. I found the triangle pattern and then removed some of the triangles to come up with this unique pattern. The card turned out pretty simple, but I didn't want to take away from the background by adding a bunch of stuff.
Now here are the challenges I will be submitting the card to, and why:

Now here are the challenges I will be submitting the card to, and why:
I pulled the colors from these two challenges.
I pulled the clean and simple design, plus the black accents from this challenge.
And I used the die cut feathers for this challenge.
Like I said, I don't normally do this, so forgive me if this has gone a bit far. I'm normally a 1-2 challenge per card kind of gal. :)
That's it for tonight! I'm off to watch the weather as a wicked storm just started up!
Until next time...

Fusion Card Challenge {Red, White and Blue}
As the title says, last night I played along with this week's Fusion Card Challenge. Ok, so this card isn't red, white and blue, but pink is close to red and there's white...so it's close, right? :)
Here is the sketch I used:
And here is the card I made:
I think this card turned out so fun! I masked off the triangle and then used one of the stamps from Avery Elle's Woodgrain & More stamp set. I love this pattern!! The sentiment is from Avery Elle's Handwritten Notes set and I used Picked Raspberry and Spun Sugar distress inks. Throw on some coordinating Trendy Twine and some Doodlebug sprinkles and this card is done! Easy peasy! Oh, the chipboard shape is from the MME's Cut & Paste Adorbs buttons.
Here is a close up of all of the details:
That is all for now! Until next time...

Happy 4th of July!
I hope all of my American friends are enjoying this 4th of July! I had some down time between festivities today so I decided to play along with this week's Color Throwdown.
Here is the swatch:
And here is the card I made:
What is a card made on the 4th of July be if it isn't made with any fireworks?? I decided to pull out my Sweet Stamp Shop Happy Hour and Too Hip stamp sets to create this cute congrats card. I stamped the sentiment directly on the hippo just to be different and I like how it turned out.
It's hard to see, but I brushed all of the fireworks with my clear Wink of Stella glitter pen to give them more sparkle. Aside from the fact that I dropped the hippo face-down on the red firework before the Wink of Stella was dry, I think it all turned out really cute!
Thanks for stopping by! Until next time...
